Hundred of Children Enthusiastically Joined the Online Kids Quran Recitation Competition 2020
SLEMAN – Aiming to create a young Quran generation, Gistrav Islamia School-Jogja held an online competition entitled “Kids Qur’an Recitation” from November to December 2020. This event was well designed for children to show their ability to read and memorize the short surahs of the 30th Juz of the Holy Qur’an.
The Kids Qur’an Recitation was an open competition for children aged 3 to 7 years old, thus it was not limited to any certain level of education. Each participant was obliged to read the decided surahs, which were Al-Falaq, Al-Ikhlas, or Al-Lahab. As it was an online competition, all participants were asked to send the video of them reading the chosen surah to the competition admin’s Whatsapp number. After all videos were collected at the end of the deadline, the selection process was held, and resulted to the selected Top-15 who were eligible to join the Grand Final held directly via Zoom Meeting. The Grand Final was, then, held on 2 December 2020.
With the total participants of 105 children across Yogyakarta and Central Java, Muhammad Azzam Hamizan Sevanto was selected as the winner of this first Kids Quran Recitation. Following Azzam, Alastair Tristan Ardhani and Dzakia Azfa Nafiah placed the second and third consecutively in this competition. Along with the winners, a favorite winner was also chosen based on the poll the parents filled which, then, made Faradisa Adzakiya Putri as the winner in this category. All winners were given several prizes; scholarships, cash money, trophy, and special merchandise from Gistrav Islamia School-Jogja as an appreciation to the best of the best Quran reciters.
In the awarding occasion, one of the winners’ parents, the mother of Muhammad Azzam Hamizan Sevanto gave her view on the importance of this kind of competition for children. She said, “I personally want to deliver my gratitude to Gistrav islamia School-Jogja for holding this event, as it will encourage the children to practice more their Quran reading as well as to enrich their Quran memorization.”
