Preparing The Students for The Tringual Environment Before School
SLEMAN – There is something special from Gistrav Islamia School-Jogja. In order to prepare the students before starting school in the new academic year this July, all new students of Gistrav Islamia School – Jogja join the school’s free ‘Pre-Sessional Program).
This program is a free language courses which focuses on English and Arabic learning for the students, as Gistrav Islamia School – Jogja will apply a Trilingual Environment. This program is designed for all students in all education levels, from Pre-School (Playgroup and Kindergarten), Elementary School to Middle School. All students are encouraged to participate in this program which is held on Saturdays starting from 20 March 2021 until this July, when the school starts. Through this program, the students are learning how to use English and Arabic as an active communication tool, so that later on they will not face any difficulty in following all teaching and learning processes.
This Pre-Sessional Program is fully held online. All students, through their parents, are always informed by the school admin to prepare themselves to join the class based on the schedule made. In the English class, the whole class is led by a teacher whose responsibility is to keep the students actively engage with the activities prepared. Meanwhile, as the Arabic teacher is not from Indonesia, the Arabic class is not only handled by the teacher but also by one moderator who helps the teacher in ensuring the students’ understanding during the class. This program, both English and Arabic, focuses more on how the students are able to make use these two languages as a tool of an active communication. Thus, their communication skills are being this program’s main goal.
Through this special additional program, the students are expected to be more motivated in welcoming their new school experience in Gistrav Islamia School – Jogja. Furthermore, this program also lets the students to know their new friends and teachers, so that when the school starts they will not spend a long time to adapt with the new people and environment.
